Since 1971 HomeCare & Hospice has offered a variety of services to patients and their caregivers throughout Allegany, Cattaraugus, Genesee and Wyoming counties. As their locations and names have changed throughout the years, today their mission and goal has remained the same: to provide comfort and dignity to those entering their final days; to offer support and care for those who need us to remain at home; to enable healing and recovery whenever possible.

Over the past two years, Melissa Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of HomeCare & Hospice and Total Senior Care reflects on the growth both organizations have seen.

Total Senior Care, a Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, is a comprehensive managed long-term care plan for adults, 55 years old or older, who wish to live at home but need assistance to maintain health, complete day-to-day activities and remain safe at home for as long as possible.

Total Senior Care was recently awarded funds from the NYS Department of Health to increase the program and provide growth. In addition to DOH funding, Total Senior Care has also received grants to help provide a supply pantry for their participants as well as audio/visual equipment to assist staff.

HomeCare & Hospice started their year with a relocation to the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany, NY.

“We do the best in healthcare,” said Melissa Sullivan. “We are so important to the areas we serve, and I think the space should reflect our organization’s work.”

When Sullivan first started in her position, she toured the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse and began meeting with their staff regularly. As approval was granted, the relocation became a reality on December 26th, 2023.

“I think my greatest accomplishment so far has been creating a workspace where staff can be open and moving to a location where there is so much potential for growth,” said Sullivan.

HomeCare & Hospice is one of the many organizations that receive funds from the United Way of Allegany and Cattaraugus County.

“Our missions are similar -- tackling tough challenges and working with private, public, and nonprofit partners to boost education, economic solutions, and health resources of the communities we serve. We both make an impact here by working together,” Mrs. Sullivan continued.
